Inside ReFigure Chiropractic, Mosman
Why a sports chiropractor

What is sports chiropractic — and who is it for?

Sports chiropractic is care built for people who lead active lives. Rather than looking at one sore spot in isolation, we assess how your spine, joints and muscles move and load through your whole body — then use gentle, individualised techniques to help manage musculoskeletal pain, support mobility and reduce the risk of future strain.

You do not need to be an elite competitor to benefit. Most of the active people we see on the Lower North Shore are everyday runners tackling the Spit-to-Manly track, surfers and ocean swimmers out at Balmoral, golfers, cyclists, CrossFitters and gym lifters — plus busy parents who simply want to keep moving without a nagging niggle. Care is always tailored to your body, your sport and your goals.

The differentiator

Where does ReFigure's elite-athlete experience come from?

An Olympic-level background

Director Dr Andrew Callister has advised Olympic athletes and supported World-Championship ski and snowboard competitors. That same care philosophy — assess properly, individualise everything — now underpins how we work with everyday athletes in Mosman.

A team that has competed

Dr Louren Katague is a former NSWIS athlete and Dr Natalie Hope is an ex-NSW volleyball representative. Between them they bring ABC, low-force and soft-tissue techniques, dry needling, IASTM and cupping to active people's care.

The three Ps

We frame sports care around pain, posture and performance — helping you feel more comfortable, move and stand well, and support the way your body handles training. Care is individual, and outcomes vary.

Our approach

How does sports chiropractic work at ReFigure?

Our signature approach is Advanced Biostructural Correction (ABC) — a full-body manual protocol that looks at posture and biomechanics as a whole, rather than chasing symptoms one at a time. For active people, that whole-body view matters: a stiff mid-back can change how your shoulder loads on a serve, and restricted hips can alter your running gait long before you feel it as pain.

Depending on what your assessment shows, care may draw on a range of techniques your ReFigure chiropractor is trained in, including diversified adjusting, Thompson drop, activator and other low-force methods, dry needling, soft-tissue work, IASTM (instrument-assisted soft-tissue) and cupping. Everything is talked through first and worked to your comfort — you are never locked into care you do not need.

The aim is straightforward: to help relieve musculoskeletal pain, support your mobility and movement quality, and give your body the best chance to recover between sessions and training loads. We are also happy to work alongside your GP, physiotherapist or sports doctor as part of a wider care team.

Runners, surfers & lifters

Which sports and injuries do you support?

Runners

Whether you are training for a City2Surf or just clocking loops around Mosman, we assess how your hips, pelvis and lower limbs move and load. Care aims to support running mechanics and help manage common musculoskeletal complaints so you can keep to your program.

Surfers & swimmers

Paddling, popping up and repeated overhead loading place real demand on the mid-back, shoulders and neck. We look at mobility and posture through the whole chain to help you feel comfortable in and out of the water.

Lifters & gym-goers

From squats and deadlifts to overhead work, movement quality under load matters. We assess how your spine and joints move, then support mobility and technique-friendly biomechanics — always within your comfort.

Common reasons active people come in include back stiffness, neck and shoulder tension, and general aches that flare with training. If you are dealing with a specific area, you might also find our pages on back pain, neck pain, sciatica and posture useful. Care is individualised and outcomes vary — we will always be honest with you about what to expect.

Prevention & performance

Can chiropractic help with injury prevention and performance?

Many active people use regular, individualised care as one part of staying comfortable and consistent — not as a magic fix. By supporting joint mobility, movement quality and how your body loads through training, care may help reduce strain. It is not a guarantee against injury, and we make no promises about performance outcomes: your training, sleep, recovery and load management all matter too.

What we can offer is a proper assessment, honest advice and a plan tailored to you and your sport. For some people that means care around a training block or event; for others it is help getting on top of a recent niggle before it becomes a bigger problem. Either way, the focus stays on your pain, posture and performance — and on keeping you doing what you love.

“If you listen to your body when it whispers, you won't have to hear it scream.”
Questions

Sports chiropractic FAQs

What does a sports chiropractor actually do?

A sports chiropractor assesses how your spine, joints and muscles move and load during your sport, then uses hands-on and low-force techniques to help manage musculoskeletal pain, support mobility and reduce the risk of future strain. At ReFigure in Mosman, care is individualised — we assess your history, movement and goals first, then tailor an approach around your pain, posture and performance.

Do I need to be an elite athlete to see a sports chiropractor?

Not at all. Most people we support on the Lower North Shore are everyday runners, surfers, ocean swimmers, golfers, cyclists and gym-goers, plus busy parents who just want to keep moving well. The same assessment-led approach applies whether you run the Spit-to-Manly on weekends or train five days a week.

Can chiropractic help prevent sports injuries?

Care may help by supporting joint mobility, movement quality and how your body loads during training, which can play a part in reducing strain. It is not a guarantee against injury — outcomes vary from person to person — but many active people use regular, individualised care as one part of staying comfortable and consistent in their sport.

When should I come in — before or after an injury?

Both are reasonable. Come in when you have a niggle, stiffness or a recent strain you want assessed, or come in proactively to support movement and recovery through a training block. If you have had a significant injury, we are happy to work alongside your GP, physio or sports doctor as part of your wider care team.

Do I need a referral to book?

No referral is needed — you can book in directly. If you are already being managed by a GP or other health professional, we are happy to work alongside them.
